About the Author
A native of Connecticut and the mother of two boys, Priscilla was a
professor of music at Mills College in Oakland, CA and principal flutist
with the Berkeley Symphony until shortly after her youngest son, Byron,
was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 7 years ago at the age of 6. At
this point, she chose to take her arts background and her M.B.A. and
head in a new direction that would be meaningful and at the same time
allow her to meet her child’s medical needs while at school. This led to
publishing her book, My Life as a Pancreas, getting involved in the
Juvenile Diabetes Foundation through its annual Walk for the Cure and
Family Mentor program, and organizing a diabetes support group
known as The Pancreatic Posse. In 2007, she was invited to be V.P. of
Outreach on the Executive Board of the Greater Bay Area Chapter of
JDRF.
